Focus and Leash Work Foundations

If you have a dog who’s excited to explore the world and you’d love walks to feel more like a team sport, this one is for you!

Loose leash walking starts with focus. In this hands-on workshop, you and your dog will learn fun games that build attention and connection, then put them to work on the leash. You’ll leave with simple tools to make every walk calmer, more enjoyable, and a lot more fun for both of you.

What you’ll get:

  • Focus games like the name game, “find it,” and check-ins

  • Leash handling tips for humans: how to hold the leash and deliver treats

  • Loose leash games like follow the leader and the “be a tree” stop

  • Help with real-life distractions like squirrels, smells, and other dogs

  • A homework sheet to keep practicing at home

Coming without your dog? You’re welcome to join us solo! You’ll learn the same focus and leash handling skills, practice the techniques with Maddie, and go home with the same homework and takeaways to work on with your pup. It’s a great option for dogs who do better without other dogs around, or for anyone who wants to learn the skills first.

IMPORTANT! BEFORE you sign up with your dog: All dogs need to be approved before attending, so we can make sure the group is a safe and comfortable fit for everyone. Please email maddie@zephyrsbackyard.com for more info and to get your dog approved. The workshop runs with a minimum of 3 dogs. If we don’t reach that a week before, you’ll get a full refund or a spot on a new workshop date.
